Eliot Chapel Nursery School

THE CLASSROOM

Two or three experienced teachers provide a warm and enriching environment in each classroom.  The play-oriented program has been developed to address the needs of the whole child.  Well-planned experiences foster intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth.  The child's good self-image is reinforced through feelings of success and security.  When children leave Eliot Chapel Nursery School, we hope they have learned to encourage positive peer relationships and that their curiosity, creativity and predisposition to learn is fully engaged.

THE PARENTS

Parents play an active role at Eliot Chapel Nursery School.  They are invited to visit anytime, and encouraged to help in the classroom during the school year.  Parents often bring special talents into the classroom, whether it is through art, music, storytelling or science activities, or in providing an extra set of guiding hands.  Many parents help with field trips, fund-raising events, social events and provide healthy, peanut-free snacks on a regular basis.  Parents serve on the Nursery School Advisory Board which assists the Director and staff in making and enacting important policy decisions.

COMMUNICATION

Communication between parents and teachers is continuous throughout the school year.  Quick chats at the classroom door or on the playground are common sights.  Longer, prearranged talks and telephone calls occur whenever necessary.  Formal conferences with teachers are scheduled twice a year and offer a detailed progress report for each child.  Periodic newsletters tell of upcoming events, what's new at school, plus other timely information.  Notes are posted outside each classroom listing the daily activities.  NEW FOR THE 2007-08 SCHOOL YEAR: Broadcast e-mail.  Make sure your e-mail address is current by submitting changes here.

TUITION AND FEES

Eliot Chapel Nursery School's annual budget is based on tuition, a non-refundable registration fee and a non-refundable supply fee as outlined in the Schedule of Classes and Fees.  While we can occasionally make exceptions, timely tuition payment is necessary in order to maintain a healthy budget.  Tuition payments may be made by the year, semester or month.  There are no deductions for absences.  For those who require a lower monthly payment plan than outlined in the 9-month plan, an extended payment plan is available.  If the extended payment plan does not lower payment sufficiently, the Durbin Scholarship Fund is available.  Please check with the Director for further information concerning extended payments and/or scholarships.

THE MARY LU DURBIN SCHOLARSHIP and ENRICHMENT

The Mary Lu Durbin Scholarship and Enrichment Fund was established to provide financial help to families who might not be able to send a child to nursery school.  The fund provides for tuition reduction at the beginning of the year, or during the year when sudden emergencies occur, such as illness or unemployment.  The fund also helps to pay for enrichment activities that are not covered by the regular operating budget.  All families at Eliot Chapel Nursery School are encouraged to help with raising funds for the Durbin Fund by working on a variety of activities throughout the year.

ENROLLMENT

Enrollment is completed by filling out the registration card and sending or bringing it to Eliot Chapel Nursery School.  Upon registration confirmation, a tuition deposit will be due.  Children enrolling in the beginning class must be
2 1/2 when school starts in September.  Children enrolling in the multiage classes must be 3 by July 31.  Children enrolling in the four afternoon class must be 4 by July 31.  Applications from new families may be submitted in the fall and will be acted upon following enrollment of current students in January.
